So the news is out there. We were previewed at the end of Sunday’s Dragons’ Den…..subject to a schedule change we’ll be featuring in next week’s programme. Sunday 21st August 9.30pm on BBC2. Ahhhhhh! We can’t reveal anything about what happened in the Den so you’ll just have to watch this space and we’ll fill you in next week!
It’s amazing to think that only 4 short years ago we had the idea to set up Little Belters. We’re sisters, we’re professionally trained singers and we have years of experience teaching children how to sing and perform properly. As mothers we were frustrated that the only options for children who loved to sing outside of school was expensive 1-2-1 singing lessons or traditional children’s choirs that often involved an audition process.
We don’t come from a classical, choral family. We grew up in Wythenshawe in Manchester, the two youngest kids of seven. As we were growing up our older siblings fed us one musical diet of the Rolling Stones, The Smiths, Bruce Springsteen…….thanks to an inspirational teacher at primary school spotting our potential we pursued our love of singing to a high level.
Singing has transformed our lives, not just giving us qualifications and careers but also teaching us about being brave, confident, dealing with criticism – loads of important stuff.
Our vision for Little Belters was to open up children’s singing tuition to ALL kids who love to sing, whatever their background or starting point. And digital-age children are surrounded by music now more than ever. They’re pretty cool. They get bored of “twee children’s songs” and we teach them how to sing using music they really understand and which truly excites them.
Fast forward 4 years and who would’ve thought we’d be pitching Little Belters to the Dragons! We always say that our Little Belters need to be the bravest performers out there and we certainly tested them (and ourselves) in the TV studio. It was probably the scariest, most daunting situation we’ve ever been in. We were totally out of our comfort zone but the kids were just amazing and we can’t wait for them to get their moment in the spotlight! So make sure you tune in next Sunday……it’s going to be dramatic that’s for sure.
